Redfern 1984                                           

This show follows the same pattern of influences as the 1982 show at the Redfern Gallery. Taking the concept of the continuous flood of information and complex, often rabid, juxtaposition of imagery flowing through the media as the basis for exploring form in painting.

I tried to escape from the ideas to focus on visual experience as the primary poetic significance of the work.  I used the image of 'The Return of Ulysses' as a 'still life', juxtaposing images with it as a form of interference.  The problems I had achieving this primary poetic element in my painting were centred on the metaphysical and narrative thoughts I had about the world around me and which, as a painter, I was struggling to come to terms with at that time.
